ACT 8 and 24 hr - 28-29 March"As Naas as Pi" |
The ACT Champs 24/8 hr events are being held in southern Namadgi National Park and we are calling the event "As Naas as Pi ". There might be pies at the Hash House, but there is definitely a Naas River. The area has many open grassy valleys and gullies, with a few handy fire trails for easy travel. The course setters are keeping you out of the post-fire scrubby bits. with thanks to some excellent vegetation mapping by Ryan Stocks. The area has some awesome boulders and rock slabs so expect some at the control locations!! Now that you have warmed up at the Twilight event, get your team organised for the 24 hour or 8 hour on the weekend 28-29 March. It takes about 75 minutes to drive to the Hash House. Camping and parking are in a limited space so please share transport.

Selection of Inter-Varsity reps |

The 2026 Australian Intervarsity Championships will be held in conjunction with the Australasian Rogaining Championships in Queensland on 29-20 August 2026. The Intervarsity rogaining competition began in 1969 and is coordinated by the Australian Rogaining Association. Teams from universities are encouraged to enter. To participate in an Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships, students must be enrolled at a tertiary education institution recognised by UniSport Australia. Teams consist of 2-5 students from the same university. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. There is no age restriction, ie. under-graduate, mature age and post-graduate students qualify. Travel bursaries are available to cover the travel costs of one team from each state/territory to compete at the Intervarsity Rogaining Championships. These are funded by a generous legacy from the Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation to the Australian Rogaining Association. The Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation (NAMSF) sponsored the re-establishment of the Intervarsity competition in 2007. The NAMSF provided a perpetual trophy for the winning Intervarsity team named ‘The Nigel Aylott trophy’. For many years the Foundation paid the travel costs for one university team from each state so that there can be a well-represented national competition. The ACTRA committee will select a team from the ACT to receive this support. If you are interested, please email the ACTRA President, Ollie James, with your team and credentials. We will look favourably on results at recent or upcoming events including the 2026 ACT Champs 24 hr at the end of March. Expressions of interest will close on 30 April 2026. |

Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation - supporting the Inter-Varsity champs |
The Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation was set up in memory of Nigel Aylott to encourage engagement in the outdoor sports of rogaining and adventure racing. The Foundation left the Australian Rogaining Association a generous donation to enable us to continue the valuable work of the NAMSF in the promotion and development of youth participation in rogaining. Who was Nigel Aylott? Nigel Aylott showed some talent as a long-distance runner at school but at university got into the full range of outdoor activities available through the Monash BushWalking Club, which included skiing, kayaking, and rogaining. As his endurance and navigation skill developed, so did his success at rogaining, eventually winning the World Rogaining Championships in 1998 and the Australian Rogaining Championships in 2000 and 2001. As adventure racing developed, Nigel saw it as the natural progression from long-distance running and rogaining. He loved experiencing the different locations in which the adventure races were set. Nigel competed in several Southern Traverse and EcoChallenge events before teaming up with Tom Landon-Smith, Alina McMaster, and Matt Dalziel to form the successful team AROC. Nigel was tragically killed in the 2004 Primal Quest race after being hit by a large boulder dislodged at the top of a gully. Nigel was highly regarded in the community and friends encouraged Nigel’s family to set up the foundation to leave a legacy by supporting the sports Nigel loved and gave so much to. |

National Inter-Varsity Coordinator needed |
Are you keen to meet other rogainers, especially those in the U23 or U30 catergories? The Australian Rogaining Association needs someone to help build enthusiasm around the universities of Australia for the Inter-Varsity Champs. This role can be as much as you can imagine it to be, but will include seeking out contacts in other universities (for example, bushwalking clubs, adventure racing) and promoting rogaining generally and the Inter-Varsity more specifically. we are keen to get as many teams as possible to the Inter-Varsity Champs. Not so that the ANU doesn't win, but to give you more competition!! |

Strava club "ACT Rogaining" |
Do you put your rogaines onto Strava? If so, please join the club "ACT Rogaining" so that we can link your GPS track onto the RogaineResults website. The more tracks that we can get for teams, the more interesting the post-event analysis of "what should have we/they done". |
